Gopal Italia was detained and taken to Sarita Vihar police station by the Delhi Police on Thursday for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, he was released after a few hours in detention.

Earlier on Sunday, BJP’s IT cell in-charge Amit Malviya had shared the purported video of Italia on Twitter where Italia can be heard calling PM Modi “neech aadmi” (a lowly person).

It has been reported that the video is from 2019 and was made during the run-up to the general elections.

Later, the AAP leader was summoned by the National Commission of Women (NCW) in connection with the video. He was detained after NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma tweeted about a ruckus outside her office.
